Saturday August 11, 2012 was the first event done by The Bureau of Apocalypse Wars, a non-profit group trying to make a difference by planning, organizing, and executing events where all proceeds go to a charity of their choosing.
Each year The Bureau will be choosing a theme that is popular and set up a Capture the Flag game between two sides. The theme for 2012 was Apocalypse Wars: The Running Dead, pitting Humans against Zombies in the ever popular Zombie Apocalypse. In 2012 the Humans were an elite force called Hunters, they were tasked with collecting a Zombie cure that crash landed in Calgary, Alberta and time was of the essence. If the Hunters got enough of the cure back to the rendezvous with in a certain time they would live to see another day and save Humanity. If the Hunters failed to retrieve enough cure in the time limit, then their exposure was deemed to be of lethal concentration and they would be left behind.
Unfortunately for the Human Race the Hunters just couldn’t get the job done despite a very noble effort and we are now all mindless brain-eating Zombies. So we would like to extend our congratulations to the Zombies for winning both games, and bringing the undead even more Gory Glory.
The event was a great success for the first year and The Bureau was able to raise just a little over $4000 with the help of Yelp Calgary, Unicom, Run Rabbit Entertainment, The Crimson Sabers, Pr1mevil Apparel, Beckhams pub, Endeavour Arts, and Protospace. The funds raised are going to Brown Baggin it for Kids, a group that helps provide food for kids who can’t afford it and The Jesse Kindley Memorial Fund who help kids by donating funds and time towards childrens sports.
Next year should be a lot of fun and the interest couldn’t be higher. The Bureau of Apocalypse Wars would like to thank everyone who came out to support a great cause and all of the sponsors and volunteers that helped make it happen.
